Situated just south of Colorado Springs and considered one of the "crown jewels" in Colorado's extensive state park system, Cheyenne Mountain State Park represents the protection of one of the last significant open spaces along the southern section of the Colorado Front Range. The 1680 acres of the park lie beneath the eastern flank of Cheyenne Mountain, and border the plains of Colorado in a stunning transition from plains to peaks. The land is in remarkable natural condition and diverse wildlife viewing opportunities abound due to the property's relatively undisturbed and unfragmented nature. Cheyenne Mountain offers superior facilities and recreational opportunities. Foremost among the park's offerings is the trail system consisting of 20 miles of hiking and biking trails. These pathways allow visitors ample opportunities to explore the park's natural beauty and discover the park's many wild inhabitants. Due to the park's diverse wildlife and fragile eco-systems, dogs are not permitted on the trails. Leashed pets are welcomed in the park's developed areas, which include the campgrounds and picnic areas. Along with great trails, the park offers superior facilities, boasting a Visitor Center with gift shop and interpretive displays, individual and group picnicking facilities, wildlife viewing, and 61 spectacular campsites. Every site includes a paved parking area, grill ring/fire pit, 10'x10' tent pad, picnic table, and amazing views of Colorado Springs below with the majestic Cheyenne Mountain above. The majority of the campsites (51 total) are full service and include water, electrical, and sewer hook-ups for RV campers. Tent campers are always welcome in these "RV" sites, but there are also 10 unique walk-in sites. These sites, nestled among scrub oak, are for tents only. Campers must take a short walk into the secluded sites from the parking lot, but they are well worth the effort! A camper-services building is available to park visitors. Beyond camping permits and park information, campers will find flush toilet facilities, coin-operated showers, a coin-operated laundry room, an activity room, and a camp store that offers everything from books and souvenirs, to snacks and camper necessities. Playgrounds, additional restroom facilities, a beautiful amphitheater and easy trail access are also available from the campgrounds. Group camping facilities are available for groups ranging from 2 units to 13 (depending on the groupings). These sites boast unique commons areas that allow campers to meet, picnic surrounded by scrub oak and enjoy each other's company. Reservations for the group camping must be made through the park office at 719-576-2016. The group sites are 49 to 61. Reservations are strongly recommended during the Spring and Summer months. Sites 1 through 48 are individual sites and must be reserved online through Reserve America or by calling 1-800-678-2267. A park trail map and campground maps may be found at the Cheyenne Mountain State Park web-page at www.parks.state.co.us

At 10,000 feet above sea level, the Cripple Creek KOA is the highest KOA in the world. It is always cool (normal mid-June to mid-August highs 70-80, normal lows 40-50 degrees Fahrenheit) and never humid. There are glorious sunsets with quiet, restful nights and fabulous star gazing. We have a Colorado high country setting, a peaceful mountain location bordering BLM forest land. The Cripple Creek/Victor area is full of things to do - Mollie Kathleen Gold Mine, Cripple Creek melodrama, steam train ride between Cripple Creek and Victor, Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument, CC/Victor Gold Mining Company which is a huge commercial gold reclamation operation, Cripple Creek Museum, nearby horseback riding, hiking up Trachyte Knob adjacent to the campground, fishing at Skaguay or Eleven Mile reservoirs, as well as numerous casinos in Cripple Creek for your gambling pleasure. It is always fun to look for the donkeys that have roamed around Cripple Creek for years. The campground is located centrally to the Colorado Springs/Pike's Peak area attractions as well as the Royal Gorge Country attractions, each area being 45 minutes to one hour away. Guests use us as a base-camp for going to these other areas. We can keep you busy for days! Our staff is able to help with reservations for our guests at numerous Colorado Springs and Royal Gorge attractions, e.g. Colorado Springs/Manitou Springs Cog Railway, Flying W Ranch in Colorado Springs, Royal Gorge Route Train, Echo Canyon or other rafting companies in the Royal Gorge area. At the campground our RV sites are spacious pull-thrus with open spectacular views of the high mountain countryside. Tent campers may choose a wilderness site in the aspen trees or a deluxe tent site that has a ramada cover, electricity and water. We have ten camping cabins and two camping lodges. We offer pancake breakfast service on Saturday and Sunday from Memorial Day to Labor Day for an additional charge. There is a camping kitchen for use by our guests. Pikes Peak looms above your campsite along the banks of Fountain Creek in one of Colorado's premier vacation destinations. Enjoy a great view of the peak as you bike (kids' fun-bike rentals available) or walk your dog along the campground's Fountain Creek. Traveling with a bigger pet? Lodge your horses in one of KOA's three corrals. Located on the south side of the city, you're just a few minutes' drive from the red-rock spires of Garden of the Gods, the Air Force Academy and shops and restaurants of Manitou Springs, a quaint 1800s resort town neighboring the city. Ride Pikes Peak Cog Railway for a panoramic view of mountains and prairie from the 14,110-foot summit. Bringing the whole crew? KOA hosts can help you with tours, entertainment and in-house catering.
