John's Creek Mountain Trail - Hiking trail near Newport, Virginia, United States - Description

Trail follows the ridge of the mountain and intersects with the Appalachian Trail after 3.5 miles, turn left at the AT. You will reach Kelly's Knob which overlooks Blacksburg after another 1.5 miles. Continue on the Appalachian Trail for another 4 miles down the mountain and back to your car parked along Hwy 42.

From Blacksburg: 460 West to Hwy 42 (Blue Glass Trail) go about six or seven miles & park a car at small lot (3 cars) on the right at Rt 629 (Lugar Hill Rd). just past the Appalachian Trail (Kelly's Knob access point). This is where you will end up. In your other vehicle, continue down Hwy 42 for 2 or 3 miles, Turn Left on Route 658. Trail head on the left at the crest of the mountain.
