The loop trail also ties into the Bottle Prairie Trail #455 for a short distance. Light use can be expected on most weekdays with moderate use on some weekends or holidays. No horses or motorized vehicles are allowed on this trail.
The trail travels through and around a riparian area (8 Mile Creek), old clear-cut, dense second growth, old growth Ponderosa Pine, a fire lookout (5 Mile Butte), and features views and wildflowers. No potable water is available. NW Forest Pass required.
From Portland drive Hwy. 26 east to Jct. Hwy. 35. Take Hwy. 35 approx. 10 miles to Forest Service Road 44. Turn right onto Rd. 44 then left onto Rd. 4430 to Eightmile Campground. This trail, constructed in 1996, originates out of the picnic area.
