Quick Day Hike to Boulder Lake. Good for beginner backpackers. Gives enough experience, without leaving the cars too far behind. Also good fishing. Good scenic view of McCall, and surrounding area. Good bouldering on the North, West side of the lake.
Louie Lake - For those who want a little more, I recommend extending this hike into a 6 mile loop to Louie Lake (The hike to Boulder Lake is 4 miles round trip). To make the loop, continue along the South side of the lake and 0.3 miles past is the junction of Paddy Flat and Kennally Creek Trails. However, a short way before this on the right is the trail to Louie Lake. (I usually miss it and have to back track. If you hit the junction just know to go back. It's not far.) This climbs 600 ft in 1.7 miles and over a ridge, then drops back into Louie Lake. The trail back will be partly on an old road. You will need to make a right turn off this road (approx 0.8 miles) onto a prominent trail. (I've included 1 pic of Louie Lake) - KC
Turn on Elo road, and follow the Fireroads into the parking area. The trailhead is approx 4 miles off of Elo Rd at Boulder Meadows Reservoir.
