Features
The trail follows a small creek and fishing is available for brook trout. The trail is steep in some locations but well worth the trek to timberline. Mount White is located to the south of the trail and Mount Antero (14, 269 feet) is located on the northern side of Little Browns Creek.
Considerations
Lightning is common at high elevations. As you move toward timberline, watch for changing weather conditions. Thunderstorms can gather rapidly during the afternoon hours. If a storm is approaching consider moving down to a lower elevation to avoid lightning and other related hazards.
From Highway 285, midway between Poncha Springs and Buena Vista, take County Road 270 west for 1.5 miles to a 4-way intersection. From the stop sign, continue traveling west. The road continues as County Road 272. Stay on CR 272 for approximately 2 miles. A sign at the cattle guard will indicate your entrance to National Forest lands. At the 2-mile point, watch for an intersection. At this intersection, CR 272 turns left and travels south for 1.5 miles to the Browns Creek Trailhead. Take the Browns Creek Trail and travel 1.5 miles to the intersection with the Colorado Trail. Take the Colorado Trail, north for .5 miles to the Little Browns Creek trail. The junction is clearly marked.
