Hart trail is located in ponderosa, pinyon-pine and juniper types. This is a very scenic trail that heads down to the Chama River Canyon Wilderness from the canyon rim. Hart trail is great for hiking, fishing at the Chama River, horseback riding, camping and picnicking. The vistas offer great opportunities for photo shots! The trail begins at the edge of the canyon and descends 400' within 1/2 mile after several switch-backs.
North on Highway 84 - from Espanola 54 miles; South on Highway 84 - from Taos 96 miles; from Chama 36 miles. Turn west on Forest Road 145. A trail marker sign will direct you to the Hart Trail. The first 3 miles of the road passes through private property; please stay on the main road.
