Trail Map |
Starting from Jack's Creek, this trail leaves from the southermost campsite in the equestrian camping area. Crossing the meadow it briefly enters forest and then emerges on the dry south facing slope of Round Mountain above the Pecos River.
The trail continues upriver for almost a mile, gradually descending to a sturdy bridge. Cross the river and start the long climb up the switchbacks to Iron Gate. The trail climbs approximately 1,000 feet to Iron Gate.
This trail can be combined with Monte Vista Trail 262 and Valle Largo Trail 248 to make a loop around the Iron Gate area with views into the canyons of the Rio Mora, before returning to Jack's Creek.
