Trail Map |
The first half-mile of this loop trail goes through the Black Canyon Campground. At camping site 4 in the upper loop of the campground, the trail leaves the campground and gently rises through a beautiful aspen and mixed conifer grove for another half-mile. Bear to the left at the trail junction. A slightly steeper stretch then goes up through mixed conifer trees, giving occasional views to the north. Just before you reach the ridgeline, the trail makes a swing to the right and makes a loop and returns to the main trail and back to the campground.
From Santa Fe, proceed to Black Canyon campground up the Hyde Park Road (SR 475). Pull over and park outside the fence at Black Canyon Campground; please park outside the campground as parking spots inside the campground are reserved for paying campers. If you park inside you will be charged a fee.
