Trail Map |
This is definitely high country hiking! Many scenic vistas and streams along the trail. From the onset at the Canjilon Lakes Campground, the trail climbs up Canjilon Mountain where you will encounter high hills as well as some flat walking along hills and canyons. At the Cabin Lookout you can either continue on the trail south back towards the Canjilon Lakes or continue to the north to Trout Lakes. Both lake areas offer camping and good fishing opportunities. Vegetation includes mixed conifers and aspen.
North on Highway 84 - from Espanola 60 miles; from Abiquiu 30 miles. Turn east on State Road 115 to the town of Canjilon. Turn left on Country Road 280 which meets up with Forest Road 559 for about 7 miles to Forest Road 129 to the Canjilon Lakes Campgrounds. Trail heads at the Lower Lakes Campground and Upper Lakes picnic area.
