From the western trailhead on the Nebo Loop, the trail winds uphill through forests and meadows. The trail joins the Loafer Mountain trail for 0.1 miles after the intersection with the Loafer Mountain trail before continuing east, where it follows a small stream downhill towards Birdseye, ending at the eastern trailhead.
From I-15, take the North Payson/Benjamin exit (currently exit #250. Travel south on Main Street to 100 North and turn left (east). Continue east to 600 East and turn right (south) for approximately 3 1/2 miles to the mouth of Payson Canyon, the beginning of the Mount Nebo National Scenic Byway (Nebo Loop road, #015). This is the most popular access - from the western trailhead along the Nebo Loop, 8 miles south of Payson. The trailhead is marked with a sign and there is room for parking on both sides of the road.
