Moderate loop hike with beautiful views much of the way, and a spectacular view at the top.
Follow the Appalachian Trail Southbound to the Salamander Trail Junction. Take the Salamander Trail to the summit of Hawksbill Mountain. Then follow the lower Hawksbill Trail back to the parking lot.
Drive to the Hawksbill Gap Parking Area at MP 45.6 on Skyline Drive in the Shenandoah National Park.
