The trail follows old road #130 then turns off on the left. Follow signs. After 2.3 miles it junctions with Downie Lake trail #1609. Continue left up the ridge for one mile to the lookout or turn right down the ridge on trail #1609 for one mile to Downie Lake.
Take State Highway 7 from Baker City to the Sumpter turnoff. Continue west on Forest Road 73 past Sumpter. Turn north on Forest Road #7370. Keeping left, drive approximately four miles. At this point, road #7370 turns into Forest Road 100. Continue forward for about ¼ mile. The trailhead is on the left which is the old #130 road.
