This backpacking hike offers magnificent views of the Grand Canyon as you hike deeper and deeper towards the bottom. The camping site it Bright Angel Campground at Phantom Ranch.
After getting the appropriate backcountry permits, start you journey by taking a bus to Yaki Point to the South Kaibab Trailhead. The first 4.5 miles descend steeply to "The Tipoff". Then the second part descends towards the Colorado river for another 2.8 mile to the campsite. THERE IS NO WATER ACCESS ON THIS TRAIL. The first water access is at the end of trail at the campsite.
On the second day, follow the River Trail to the Bright Angel Trail to Indian Garden in 4.7 miles. Make sure to refill in water there. The next 4.6 miles are grueling as you ascend the vertical wall of the canyon back to the Grand Canyon Village.
