Trail Map |
Starting in Grayson Highland Park take the Horse trail to either the first or second AT Junction. On the way you will see wild ponies and enjoy pretty views. At Wilburn Ridge (a 1 mile "shortcut") and AT trail we took Wilburn Ridge. A more strenuous choice to the AT. It is marked with a dark blue bordered with a light blue. You will cross over and through rock formations with great views. of the surrounding country. Follow the AT until Mount Rogers Summit Spur. You will travel through pine forests and wildflower meadows. The summit has no view but is a temperate rain forest which is covered in moss and ferns. There are 2 markers on 2 different rock formations at the top. Great hike, highly recommended! We followed the AT all the way back to the parking lot for a different view.
