Trail Map |
Potrero John is a forest service trail to a camp ground about 1.5 miles in. However if you continue up the drainage for another 1.5 miles you will hike through some narrow canyons with some great rock formations and also lots of alder, fir, and oak trees. At 3.1 miles you will come to the main event, a 40 foot waterfall. I've been to these falls every month of the year and have never seen them dry even during drought years.
Lots of wildflowers during the spring and if you are willing to sit quiet for some time you may see some of the canyons many resident wildlife. Of special note are rattle snakes, so watch where you step and just stay clear of them. I've also seen bear, deer, quail and many others here. Remember to always pack out what you bring in.
This canyon gets very hot in the summer time so prepare accordingly.
From Ojai take Why 33 North to the trail head.
