Trail Map |
Trail? What trail! There is somewhat of an obscure trail for the first mile but then it is all boulder hopping in the creak and bush whacking through the new stands of alder trees. The gem of this hike is at the very end, a 70 foot waterfall in the end of a box canyon.
As you hike this trail at about 3/8 of a mile you will come to two canyons, stay to the left through a narrow canyon. Shortly the trail will open up to a wide canyon and just continue following this up canyon. At about mile 2.5 you will enter a narrow box canyon, this is where your elevation gain really starts. You are going to pass several small water falls and some cascades across the rocks then just as the canyon makes a right turn the main waterfall will come into view.
Due to the nature of the box canyon, if there are any thunderstorms in the area do not hike this trail, a flash flood will leave you with no way out.
Warning, it gets very hot in this canyon in the summer so prepair accordingly.
A very strenuous hike but well worth it.
From Ojai take hwy 33 North to the trail head.
