Trail is called the Saugatuck Valley Trail. It is maintained by volunteers of the Connecticut Forest and Parks Association.
Start out from the pull-of at a small informational board and outhouse. Start out by going North on the blue-blazed trail. Even though you can sometimes here and see Valley Forge Road to your right it still feels like you are in the middle of the wilderness. Mainly easy walking, with a few minor ascents up tiny hills will be the trail's description for the next 0.6 miles until it crosses over Godfrey Road. From here the trail continues another 1.2 miles north with similar conditions as the previous 0.6 Miles. The only difference is that there is a small descent at the end of this. After the short descent, cross over Valley Forge Road. From here you can take a right where there is a nice viewing location of Saugatuck Resivor or you can keep going as I did. From here it is another 0.5 Miles until a trail intersects from the left. If you need the bathroom you can take a left and go to an outhouse in 0.2 Miles. I took a right and found a nice spot to have a snack break along the resivor to my right. I then backtracked (along with going the 0.2 miles to the bathroom) all the way back to the parking area. It took me about 3 hours, but I was going very slowly.
The trail map, which there is a link for below, serves as your permit.
Take exit 42 from the Merritt Parkway. Head North on CT - 57, take a right onto Lyons Plain Road and then a left after about three miles onto Valley Forge Road. After crossing over a small river and seeing the resivor on your right there will be a parking area w/bathroom at the intersection of Davis Hill Road and Valley Forge Road. If this parking lot is full you can park at the small hiker's pull-off where the trail starts about 1/8 up Davis Hill Road on the right-hand side.
