Description:

Edit

This is a very nice trail to get a taste of the Seven Devils Mtns while hiking to a very nice lake. The hike starts at the Windy Saddle Trailhead (7600 ft) and drops down quickly to about 6800 ft. It then is relatively flat until you turn off the main trail (Boise Tr #101) onto the Cannon Lake Tr #126. It then climbs to the lake in about 3/4 miles. The distance to the lake is about 3.5-3.75 miles. (You can also continue on to Upper Cannon Lake - but I haven't been there.) The lake is at 7190 ft. The trail really drops in elevation to the lake, but I put the max elevation change above, because as I found out this trail is more difficult that it looks at first glance on paper. The end of the trail is where the biggest climb is. ***BE PREPARED - as weather can change quickly as I found out. We visited in August and got snowed on. It was 34 degrees when we got to the car. We were expecting temps around 60 that day.** (Sorry the black and white pic of the waterfall is NOT on the trail. Uploaded by mistake, although it's along US 95 on the Little Salmon River.)
