This is a nice day hike close to Boise/Bogus Basin. The trail starts at the Shafer Butte Picnic area (a fee area - see link). This is an excellent place for lunch before hiking. It offers huge views of the Boise National Forest and Sawtooth Mountains. The trail offers a few alternatives, an interpretive trail (1 mile loop) and the 4 mile loop that gives 360 degree views.
