Le Signal (French Alps)

This short loop hike offers panoramic views of the Aiguilles Rouges, Cahmonix Valley and the "Mer De Glace" Glacier.

From the Montenvers - Mer De Glace train station follow the signs to "Le Signal" and/or hotel. From the hotel, start following the trail to "Le Signal". The trail will start climbing steeply offering towering views of the glacier. After a steep climb you will arrive at "Le Signal", which is a small summit amidst a rock field.

Continue past the summit and follow sign to "Plan De L'Aiguille". The trail will continue through the rock field, before following the mountain side. From there, panoramic views of the Chamonix Valley can be enjoyed.

Then, look for a right turn midway through the descend, once the trail starts descending sharply with numerous switchbacks. Follow signs to Montenvers / Mer De Glace to close the loop and return to the train station. This part of the trail will follow the mountain side through forests until returning to the Montenvers train station.
