The Big Boulder Creek Trailhead begins at the historic Livingston Mill, about 18 miles ESE of Stanley Idaho. The trail gains elevation steadily as it winds up the canyon alongside Big Boulder Creek. The trail is moderately steep and well maintained for the most part. Beyond Washington Lake however, the trail becomes little more than an indistinct game trail as it scrambles up the outer wall of Big Boulder Basin.
