Gateway's Jamaica Bay Unit in Brooklyn and Queens includes a wealth of history, nature and recreation, from New York City's first major airport and coastal fortifications to a wildlife refuge and pristine beaches. It's migration time again! Check out what birds are heading south for the winter at Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge. While you are there, you can learn what's up, besides the birds, at the Visitor Contact Center. There's new exhibits, walking trails and ranger programs to explore.
Take a self guided trail at the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge. Try the Upland, East Pond and West Pond trails. Or hike in the back fort area of Fort Tilden. Pets are not permitted anywhere within the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge District.
