Cold Mountain is a bald affording nice, open views. From parking area, cross road and follow connector trail for 15 yards to intersection with blue blazed Old Hotel Trail. Turn left on trail which parallels forest service road before angling to right. Ascend to top of ridge and find a nice, flat camping spot under large oaks. Trail continues to Cow Camp Gap, shelter on right, where it crosses a creek and ascends to an intersection with the Appalachian Trail. Turn right and follow the AT over Cold Mountain and down to the road. Turn right and follow trail / road back to parking lot in .4 mi.
