Stop by the Dismal Creek waterfall about a mile after turning off VA 606 on the way to the trailhead. Watch for a small parking lot on the right.
Park your car in a turnout on the right where FDR 201 makes a 90 degree left turn. Take the trail to the right of the gated road. You will soon merge with the Appalachian Trail. Take a left onto the AT and rise to the top of the ridge of Sugar Run Mountain. Once on a ridge look out on the right for rock outcrops that will offer 180 degree views. Around 7 miles, take a left onto the blue blazed Ribble Trail back to the car.
