Edit |
This loop hike takes you to Marcy's Dam and Lake. The lake offers beautiful vistas of some of the highest peaks of the Adirondacks.
From the trailhead parking lot at heart Lake follow the trail for about 1 mile to the first intersection. Take a left towards Marcy's Dam. In about another mile you will arrive at the lake.
To form a loop, do not cross the dam, and take a right onto the trail surrounding the lake. Take another right onto the Whales Tail Mountain Ski Trail. This part of the loop is strenuous and can be avoided by just backtracking. Close the loop by taking a right onto the Algonquin Trail back to Heart Lake.
