Description:

Edit

This long trail runs along cliff edge on the west rim of Linville Gorge. The segment described here is part of a trail that once existed between Wisemans View on the North end and Dobson Knob road on the south. The centrtal segment has been restored by the USFS and runs from Conly Cove trail to Mossy Canyon Ridge trail. Unfortunately MCRT is not labeled as such on published maps and there is no posting or parking. MCRT is steep, highly erosive and thankfully short. It is shown on the USFS maps misidentified as Rockock.

Rockjock runs near cliff edge and skirts 8 canyons. Takes 5-10 hours to hike. There are 6 small volume waterfalls and constant views. Much of the forest on the south end is BURNED. Occasional side trails lead out to rock promontories overlooking 1000ft of space and 300ft sheer cliffs. The North Carolina Wall on the opposite side of the gorge is 500ft high.
