White Memorial Conservation Center. 4,000 acre nature preserve with 35 miles of trails for hiking, x-country skiing, birdwatching, and picnicking. Nature Museum contains unique exhibits depicting the history and natural resources of the area. Maps of their hiking trails are available from the museum or online.
Start on the Lake Trail near the Carriage House.
Head south to follow the yellow rectangular blazes and enter the wood through a gate.
At junctions with two woods roads, go left and ignore foot trail that branch off to the left. You will reach Bantam Lake in 0.5 miles.
Turn right to reach observation platform.
Cont. west along the L Trail, which is now a footpath, and travels through wetlands.
Three-tenths of a mile from the lake, the trail intersects a woods road.
Turn right and quickly left onto a green-blazed trail, the Whitemill Hill Trail, and follow this grassy road for 0.7 mile until you reach the entrance road.
Turn right onto the road and walk through the entrance gates.
