This trail leads to Boss and Hunt Lakes. Both of these lakes are beautiful! Neither lake has fish present but eventually both lakes will be stocked with native greenback cutthroats. This area is great for an overnight backpack trip and some relaxing time spent at a couple of high-elevation lakes.
From Poncha Springs, take US Highway 50 west for about 12 miles to the town of Monarch. Turn right on Forest Road 230 (Middle Fork). This road is located on the north side of Hwy 50, across from the Monarch Mountain Lodge. The road is 4-wheel drive, only and hikers with low clearance vehicle should park and walk up the road to the Boss Lake trailhead. The trailhead is located about approximately 1 mile up the road. The hike to Boss Lake is about 1 mile in length. To get to Hunt Lake, follow the trail along the east side of Boss Lake and watch for a small sign that indicates the trail to Hunt Lake.
You can also click on the marker on the map to get Google directions to the trailhead.
