The Wild Oak National Recreation Trail is a 17-mile loop following ridge tops and circling the headwaters of the North River. Each of its three sections offers a vigorous but scenic day hike or it can provide the backpacker a nice multiple day loop. Elevations range from a low of 1,600 feet at North River Gap to 4,351 feet on Little Bald Knob, offering nice vistas and wildlife viewing opportunities.
