The Middlesex Fells reservation is a nice section of conservation land north of Boston. There are several trail loops open for day hikes, up to 6.9 miles long. There is also a mountain bike loop about 5 miles long. If there is enough snow in the winter, this is also a popular spot for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. Spot Pond is open for swimming and boating, but the ponds west of I-93 are used for municipal drinking water and therefore off limits.
