Description:

Edit

The Middlesex Fells reservation is a nice section of conservation land north of Boston. There are several trail loops open for day hikes, up to 6.9 miles long. There is also a mountain bike loop about 5 miles long. If there is enough snow in the winter, this is also a popular spot for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. Spot Pond is open for swimming and boating, but the ponds west of I-93 are used for municipal drinking water and therefore off limits.

Directions:

Edit

From I-93, follow the exit signs to Fellsway West and look for a sign to the Sheepfold parking area. This is the most central parking lot, and usually the most crowded. There are also parking spots along South Border Road, and along the north end of Spot Pond near the intersection of South Street and Pond Street. Parking is free, but look out for "No Parking" signs or you might find a $25 ticket on your windshield.
