Edit |
This is the trailhead that leads to the hiking and climbing areas on the North side of Summersville Lake on the E side of 19N.
There are a lot of trails around here, most unmarked and solid. Interesting things to see, mostly woodland areas with lots of rock outcrops, but it starts out in kinda plainsy area and there's an interesting old piece of machinery parked in one place. If you bring equipment and can rock climb, there is a place where you can see a waterfall as well. Without climbing, there's at least one nice "overlook" spot good for viewing foliage (fall) and the lake (all year). No set "mileage" for the trail...wander around as much or little as you please.
I prefer this area in the fall. In September they start letting the lake down for the winter (and for Gauley River rafters) and in October the trees are at their peak. When the lake is low you have more "beach" to wander around (down the hill from the aforementioned "overlook".
