This is a 3.2 mile Round Trip hike to THE best view of the New River Bridge. It starts from a large parking area with multiple trailheads. The one you want is "Long Point". It passes through a meadow and then woods in a slightly inclining trip to the Gorge. It ends at a large, open rock with an awesome view.
Cameras are a must. Watch Pets and children as you approach the final area. The "large, open rock" is surrounded by sheer drop offs and may become slippery when wet. HOWEVER it is large enough so that even those with a fear of heights should not have a problem enjoying the view from the safety of the center of it.
If you have extra time, try the trails that cross this one. Kaymoor is one of them, and an excellent one at that.
Personal favorite season: Spring. If you catch it the right week of April May, the area around the "viewing rocks" are surrounded by pink rhodedendron. It's Beautiful. Fall with the colors & "Bridge Day" in October with the base jumping from the bridge is a close second.
From US RT.19--follow RT.16 South thru Fayetteville. Take a left on Gatewood Road --sign indicates Kaymoore and Cunard--. Follow Gatewood Road for 1.9 miles, and turn left on Galileo Rd (I think...one of the famous old scientists ;). There is a LARGE parking area on the left after a few hundred yards.
There are 2 trailheads here and various trails intersecting, including Kaymoor (through an old mine area, lots of stairs, very interesting) and a trail back to Fayetteville. Long Point Trail is the one you want here.
You can also click on the marker on the map to get Google directions to the trailhead.
