The first half-mile of this loop trail goes through the Black Canyon Campground. At camping site 4 in the upper loop of the campground, the trail leaves the campground and gently rises through a beautiful aspen and mixed conifer grove for another half-mile. Bear to the left at the trail junction. A slightly steeper stretch then goes up through mixed conifer trees, giving occasional views to the north. Just before you reach the ridgeline, the trail makes a swing to the right and makes a loop and returns to the main trail and back to the campground.
